The Soothing Effects of Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint

Sore throats. Itchy noses. Hives. If you have allergies, you know these symptoms well. Thankfully, the bounties of the Earth are here to help! While everyone reacts differently to essential oils, many have found relief with an equal parts blend of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint. Alone, each component is helpful in their own right, and together they become a powerhouse blend that is useful (and economical) to have in your medicine cabinet.

Lemon

Lemon fruit is grown year round around the world, from the United States and Brazil to Italy, South Africa, and China. They are harvested when ripe and the rinds are pressed for their oils in a process called cold expression. Believed to originate from India, it is said that Alexander the Great brought lemons to Europe from Asia. Lemons are a powerhouse when it comes to health. They are packed with vitamins and minerals vital for survival, which makes them quite the healing fruit. Most commonly used for detoxifying, anxious depression, and digestive problems, Lemon is also used to soothe sore throats and skin infections, which is why it is used in Spark Naturals allergy blend.

Lavender

Primarily grown in Europe and Asia, Lavandula angustifolia, commonly known as Lavender, is typically harvested midsummer, set to air dry for a few days, and then steam distilled. Ancient civilizations, including the Greeks and Romans, often used the flowers in their baths and burned it in their sick rooms. Today, it is widely used to soothe burns, rashes, and anxiety. Lavender is included in Spark Naturals allergy blend because of its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Peppermint

“Mentha”, is thought to take its name from the greek nymph Minthe who was turned into a plant by Persephone after her husband (Hades) affair. Hades in turn made Minthe into an herb the people loved, cultivated, and used. Today, Mentha Piperita, or Peppermint, is cultivated mainly in the United States and has been since the 1850’s. Along with being used to ease nausea, it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and a decongestant. It also is known as an adaptive essential oil. It heats when heat is needed, and cools when needed, which is unique and impressive.
